While Jeanne Marie Gerish, company president, started Kathy Jeanne Hats in 1985, the Gerish family traces its lineage in the industry back to the early 1900’s when Fred Gerish had a hat dyeing business. In the days when men and women wore hats for every occasion, Fred Gerish dyed hat accessories, feathers, fabrics, and bands; and sold these items to hat makers.
His son, F. Jay Gerish is considered by many to be the “godfather” of the industry. He not only manufactured hats in his own factory, but for 40 years he has presided over this industry as a knowledgeable raw materials supplier, importing fabrics and straws from throughout the world.
